October 

Issue: Personal Injury case 
Disposition: $270,000 settlement
Basic Facts: Client suffered severe injuries to her back in a rear end collision. Client underwent several surgeries, years of physical therapy and pain medication.

Issue: Legal Malpractice case 
Disposition: $35,000 settlement
Basic Facts: Client hired firm to represent him in civil and criminal matters. Firm took $20,000 from client’s family. Firm paid $1,500 to bail bondsman to post his bond and kept the rest. Firm failed to appear for any of his court dates, failed to notify him of any of his court dates or his outstanding bench warrant. Client unnecessarily spent 5 days in jail on the bench warrant, was assessed a child support amount that was higher than was appropriate, and none of his money was returned. 

Issue: Client charged with Assault and Battery on wife, wife also filed a Protective Order and filed for Custody, Child Support, and Spousal Support. 
Disposition: Assault and Battery charge and Protective Order dismissed, negotiated agreement for client to have three days per week with the child and reduced child support.
Basic Facts: Parties are parents of 2 year old child, five-year marriage, got into a disagreement which escalated and wife called the police, client arrested and removed from residence. 
Defense: Wife’s testimony was not credible, client is a federal employee with a security clearance and no prior criminal history. 

Issue: Appeal of dismissal of grandmother’s motion for visitation with grandchild.
Disposition: Appeal dismissed.
Basic Facts: Client awarded custody of child in Juvenile Court, grandmother withdrew her petition for visitation in Juvenile Court and then appealed denial of visitation to Circuit Court.
Defense:  Judge granted our motion to dismiss appeal based on the fact that the petition was withdrawn in the lower court making the petition a nullity.   

Issue: Temporary Visitation Motion pending final hearing on Custody, Visitation and Support.
Disposition: Client granted 4 hours of visitation every Saturday.
Basic Facts: 10 month old child, parties never married, mother refused to allow client to see the child except for a few hours at a time in her presence in her home.
Defense:  Judge agreed that client should be able to spend time with the child without the mother being present.  

September

Issue: Personal Injury case
Disposition: $33,000 settlement.
Basic Facts: Client suffered soft tissue injuries in a rear end collision. Client underwent years of physical therapy and chiropractic treatment.

August

Issue: Appeal of a Protective Order
Disposition: DISMISSED
Basic Facts: Ex-Girlfriend claimed client kicked her in the back and threatened to have someone kill her. 
Defense: Ex-girlfriend’s testimony was not credible. Client testified that he never threatened her or touched her in any way. Judge believed client. Client had a clean record and a security clearance. Ex-girlfriend appeared to be suffering from mental health and substance abuse issues.

Issue: Rule to Show Cause
Disposition: Agreed dismissal after Ex-Husband paid arrearage in full, satisfied obligation under Separation Agreement, and paid $750.00 in client’s attorney’s fees
Basic Facts: Ex-Husband behind on child support obligation to client and in breach of Separation Agreement

June

Issue: Divorce with custody, support, and property issues
Disposition: Client awarded custody, spousal support, child support, and 50% of all marital assets. Ex-husband ordered to pay $4,000.00 in attorney’s fees.
Basic Facts: 20 year marriage with three children, real estate, and retirement assets
Defense: Parties able to resolve custody and property issues by agreement. Trial on spousal support issue only. Judge found that ex-husband was being unreasonable in refusing to pay spousal support.  

Issue: Annulment
Disposition: Nonsuit 
Basic Facts: Wife filed for an annulment alleging that client was still married at the time he married her. Client denies that he was still married.
Defense: Wife could not introduce the documents she alleged proved that client was still married because she did not have the people who had signed the documents with her in court.  

Issue: Protective Order
Disposition: Dismissed 
Basic Facts: Client caught husband cheating with her best friend. Allegedly slapped the friend across the face. Friend filed for a Protective Order against client.
Defense: Client was not a violent person. This was a reasonable reaction under the circumstances. Had no further contact with the victim whatsoever. The judge did not feel that a Protective Order was necessary under the circumstances. 

Issue: Divorce with custody, support and property issues 
Disposition: Client was awarded custody of the minor child, child support, and more than 50% of all marital assets. Ex-husband was ordered to pay the mortgages on both residences and half of our client’s attorney’s fees.
Basic Facts: 30 year marriage, 2 children, ex-husband was abusive towards client.
Defense: Ex-husband failed to fully respond to discovery and was therefore sanctioned.

Issue: Appeal of Child Support Determination
Disposition: Reduction from $700.00 per month to $175.00 per month
Basic Facts: Client obtained additional custodial days between the initial child support determination and the appeal date such that she moved from the sole custody calculator to the joint custody calculator, obtained health insurance for the children, and showed that custodial parent had under-reported his income at the initial determination.

May

Issue: Protective Order
Disposition: Dismissed 
Basic Facts: Client’s wife filed a protective order against him alleging that he forced her to have sex with him and would not let her leave their apartment when she wanted to move out.
Defense: Client denied any abuse, family members testified on his behalf.  

April

Issue:  Motion to Modify Custody and Visitation
Disposition: Motion denied. Ex-husband ordered to pay $12,000.00 in attorney’s fees.
Basic Facts: Parties divorced in 2006. Client awarded custody of minor child and permitted to relocate to Syria. Ex-husband awarded visitation during summer and Christmas only. Ex-husband filed motion to modify based on deteriorating conditions in Syria. 
Defense:  Client agreed to stay in US with child. Several issues with father’s treatment of child. Father awarded supervised visitation on Saturdays for a few hours only.
